Established in 1980 this mixed practice is the first and only veterinary facility on Haida Gwaii, (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands). The hospital, located on the Richardson Ranch, provides both medical and surgical services, including
X-rays, ultrasound and dentistry. Referrals to specialists can be arranged as the situation requires.

Dr Don Richardson opened the original Queen Charlotte Islands Animal Hospital on June 1st, 1980.
Our current Hospital was constructed new in 2015. New equipment purchased included a new x-ray generator, flat-panel digital x-ray, dental machine and dental x-ray, color doppler ultrasound machine, Chemistry and Hematology machines and a network of computers to allow for paperless records. An Oxygen Generator with clinic wide distribution connect to new anesthetic machines with a modern waste gas disposal system. New kennels, some with oxygen, wet tables, hydraulic lift table, sophisticated monitors, IV pumps and LED lighting throughout the facility are just some of the newest additions.

Dr. Don Richardson received his BSc from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974 and
his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine located at the University of Saskatchewan in 1978. He is a member of the
