His Dam was Western National Grand Champion Hereford Female in 2010 with 18X at her side and his Sire was National Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Bull in 2006. His pedigree includes the Calving Ease trait leaders Remitall Leonard and Tlell Red Cedar.  Strong female lines include the Keepsake cow family from Golden-Oak and the Roo/Duster cow family from the Richardson Ranch to assure a strong maternal focus is bred into this bull.

His phenotype is awesome. You have to admire his length and smoothness while being blown away by his muscle and depth of body. But when you watch him move, you know why Xplosive 18X was chosen bull calf champion at the first combined horned polled show at Farmfair in 2010, under the scrutiny of Judge Dave Johner. This bull is an athlete and he travels around the ring or the pasture with an ease not often seen in a 2600 lb. bull. Judge Bill Biglieni picked him for his Grand Champion Hereford bull at the 2012 Manitoba Livestock Expo in Brandon, where he went on the be crowned Supreme Champion Bull over all breeds. At the 2012 Western Canadian Agribition Xplosive was a very popular choice for the Polled Hereford Grand Champion Banner and he was selected as a top ten finalists in the Royal Bank Supreme Championship Showdown.

Tlell 8N Red Zulu 1Z   ............... son of Tlell 29F Red Cedar 8N

Bull calves like Red Zulu come along rarely in a breeders career. His pedigree is eight generations deep in Tlell breedings and includes many of the breed icons such as Leonard, Boomer, Boulder, Blueprint and Felton 517 as well as Stamina and Olympian. His dam is double bred to Jade 550C which the Richardson's acquired from the Saddle-Valley Dispersal. This calf has the EPD documentation we are all striving to find for calving ease and maternal milk, yet still has actual growth and performance to grab your attention. His two year old Jade mother is an absolute gem, and did a great job on her first calf. This cow/calf pair sold for $27,000 in the Richardson Ranch Online Sale.

Red Zulu 1Z was shown at the World Hereford Conference where he attracted attention from breeders around the world. He has that rare combination of a low birth weight (only 74 lbs) while achieving a very large weaning weight ( 205d adj of 862 lbs.).  His actual weight when he left the farm for the Alta Genetics Stud was 996 pounds on October 6^th with a 32 cm scrotal circumference. We expect Red Zulu to follow his sire Tlell 29F Red Cedar 8N to be a Birth Weight and Calving Ease trait leader who will moderate cow size.
